The Bryan Building

The Bryan Building

In the Heart of Jacksonville, FL

Historical Building | Great Location
Based on the original plans, the Bryan Building, 217-231 Hogan Street, was completed in 1928. Joseph Edward Bryan financed its construction. Bryan was a general contractor with offices on Phelps Street. During the late 1920s Bryan and his wife, Helen, resided at 1830 Avondale Circle. Construction of the Bryan Building was part of the Jacksonville Renaissance that followed the Great Fire of 1901. The fire resulted in the rebuilding of a modern, twentieth century city. Contemporary fireproof materials such as brick, stone, concrete, and steel were employed in erecting a new skyline. Architects and builders flocked to the city in unprecedented numbers.
